Parents Info

Everything you need to know for a stress-free family visit to Forsyth Park with kids.

Playground and spray pool

Forsyth Park features a large, fenced playground near the southern end with climbing structures, swings, and a seasonal spray pool that runs during warm months. It is a favorite spot for local families and a great place for kids to burn off energy after walking the Historic District.

Stroller and accessibility

The park's main paths are paved and stroller-friendly. However, some of the historic sidewalks surrounding the park can be uneven due to tree roots and cobblestones. A stroller with larger wheels will make your visit much smoother.

Restrooms and changing

Public restrooms are available near the park's visitor center area. They are generally clean but basic. There are no dedicated baby-changing stations, so bring a portable changing mat for infants.

Shade and sun protection

While the park is famous for its massive live oaks, open areas around the fountain and the Farmers' Market offer limited shade. Bring sunscreen, hats, and water bottles — Savannah's sun can be intense, especially in summer.

Dog park etiquette

Forsyth Park has an off-leash dog area. If your children are nervous around dogs, steer clear of the fenced dog zone. Always supervise young children near the dog park fence, as excited dogs may run up to greet them.

Nearby family-friendly stops

After the park, consider visiting the nearby Savannah Children's Museum (outdoor play structures), Leopold's Ice Cream on Broughton Street, or a riverboat cruise on the Savannah River — all within easy walking or driving distance.
