In short

Forsyth Park's map spans roughly 30 acres bounded by West Gaston Street (north), Park Avenue (south), Drayton Street (east), and Whitaker Street (west). The 1858 fountain anchors the north end, a monument-lined central promenade leads south to tennis courts and open fields, and the playground, café, and Fragrant Garden occupy the south end.

North end: the fountain and Gaston Street entrance

If you approach Forsyth Park from downtown Savannah along Bull Street, you enter from the north side at West Gaston Street — and the first thing you see is the famous white cast-iron fountain, installed in 1858. This is the heart of the park and the most popular gathering spot. The open circular lawn around the fountain is broad enough for picnic blankets and photo setups from any angle. Drayton Street borders the park on the east here, Whitaker Street on the west, and both have on-street parking for those arriving by car.

The central promenade: monuments and live oaks

Heading south from the fountain, a wide central promenade stretches the length of the park, lined on both sides by the enormous live oaks draped in Spanish moss that define Savannah's visual identity. Along this central spine and in the surrounding lawn areas you will find the park's monuments — including a Confederate memorial and a marker commemorating the Spanish-American War. These sit roughly in the middle third of the park and are easy landmarks for meeting up with others. The broad lawns on either side of the promenade are popular for casual recreation, yoga, and dog walking throughout the day.

Mid to south: courts, fields, and event space

The southern half of the park opens up into more active recreation territory. Tennis courts and basketball courts are located in this section, along with larger open fields that the city uses for concerts, festivals, and community events throughout the year. This half of the park has a more relaxed, neighborhood feel compared to the tourist-heavy fountain area. On Saturday mornings the farmers market sets up in this general zone, drawing locals with fresh produce, prepared foods, and craft vendors.

South end: playground, café, and Park Avenue

At the very south end of the park, along Park Avenue, you will find the children's playground tucked under the live oaks, public restrooms, and the park café — a convenient stop for coffee or a snack. The Fragrant Garden, a small walled garden originally designed for visitors with visual impairments, is also at this end of the park. Walking from the fountain to this south end takes roughly 10 minutes at a comfortable pace, covering the full approximately 30 acres of the park from Gaston Street to Park Avenue. To get turn-by-turn walking directions, simply search for "Forsyth Park" in Google Maps — the park's pin drops near the fountain, and you can navigate to any of the bordering streets from there.
